These guidelines are not designed to restrict you so much as to help EVERYONE enjoy the list. Remember that SMRF is a mostly self-censored list. Remember that if you choose to complain about other members' posts that you should do so with tact and OFFLIST.
The guidelines are as follows:
- The SMRF list is for the exchange of information on railroads of the southeastern US. It is for finding new friends and sharing experiences, methods, techniques and resources with one another. It is for maintaining and furthering friendships.
- Avoid postings that may be interpreted as derogatory or critical in nature of persons. If you have a gripe, go directly OFFLIST to the person(s) involved. Do NOT post to the list.
- Avoid "me-toos" just for the sale of piling on. On the other hand, an emotional "me-too" can be a wonderful stress reliever, . . . so buy all means, if this is your case, post it! Don't be afraid and don't be rude!
- As a courtesy to all, before sending replies to messages posted by others, delete all but the section that you are referring to. Further, think about your reply. Is it of interest primarily to the author of the message you are responding to? If so, then reply only to that person and NOT to the list.
- Read the SUBJECT line of the messages you send BEFORE sending them and assure that the SUBJECT line matches the content of your message.
- Short quips in a message are fine and enjoyed by most people. However, avoid posting "stand-alone" jokes.
- Smiley faces are encouraged as an aid to avoid misinterpretation. They replace our unseen facial expressions and unheard tone of voice. Examples: :-) ;-) 8-) :^) etc., etc. Don't use a smiley face as an excuse to be rude however.
- Y'all are invited to post FOR FREE, SALE OR TRADE messages. Stipulations include that the items listed will be viewed as useful to modelers of southeastern railroads, that you do not repeat a previous post, and that you do not over use this privilege.
- If you have a bone to pick with someone, do so OFFLIST. NEVER post "personal" messages, good, bad, or otherwise to the list.
Failure to adhere to any of the above guidelines will result in a limited loss of posting privileges and flogging with a wet noodle.
However, nobody will ever be permanently banned from
subscribing.
