Q: What is the purpose of SMRF?
A: SMRF is for the informal sharing of information thru an email list
server. Using this list server subscribers post questions, answers and general comments.
Some socializing and good natured kidding goes on as well, but such distractions are
self-censored when they get out of hand -- there are guidelines
for list behavior. We give, borrow, trade, buy and sell photos, slides, and even
models amongst one another. Subscribers are also encouraged to supply ideas, suggestions,
poll data, photos, drawings and other resource information to receptive manufacturers to
improve the selection of southeastern railroad model products on the market.

LISTSERV@LISTSERV.DARTMOUTH.EDU
with the following single line in the body of the email:

Use your actual or chosen name here...Your name should be at least two separate words.
For some reason the Dartmouth Server doesn't like single word names. If the subscription
message is sent correctly, you will receive a confirmation request from the server with
instructions on how to confirm. This confirmation request ensures that your email address
is valid and keeps others from subscribing you without your knowledge. For more
information on changing your subscription options see the MAILING

Q: What is the SMRF Encyclopedia?
A: The SMRF Encyclopedia is a compilation of knowledge about southeastern
railroading and how to model it assembled by Sam "HOSAM" McCall
(deceased) and maintained now by Henry Estes. It began as a series of FAQs that attempted to
distill information discussed regularly on SMRF. Sam McCall volunteered to go
beyond distilling list discussion topics and build a comprehensive encyclopedia covering
all topics of modeling southeastern railroads. The SMRF Encyclopedia web site
can be accessed at http://www.hosam.com/
