Send an email with NO SUBJECT
to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.DARTMOUTH.EDU
with the following single line in the body of the email:

Your name should be at least two
separate words. For some reason the Dartmouth Server doesn't like single word
names. If the subscription message is sent correctly, you will receive a
confirmation request from the server with instructions on how to confirm. This
confirmation request ensures that your email address is valid and keeps others from
subscribing you without your knowledge.

Can I avoid having so many separate messages? In
other words is there a digest option?
Yes! To have the messages from the list
arrive "bundled" in one big message (sent out on a regular basis depending upon
the volume of messages and the time between digest mailings), send an email with NO
SUBJECT to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.DARTMOUTH.EDU
with the following single line in the body of the email:
set SMRF digest
You should receive a confirmation message with
your new settings. NOTE: some email clients will read the digests strangely such that all
messages will become separate attachments to the digest message instead of being
concatenated within the body of the note as text. If you experience this problem,
try setting the MIME setting on your subscription (see 3. under custom settings below).

Is there a way to read
email that was sent to the list prior to my subscription?
Yes! There is an archive
of posts for the list that is compiled weekly and is saved for at least one year.
Currently, the old SEMRA at Dartmouth archive is also preserved in the SMRF archive.
To access the archive via the web click on

How can I get general help
from the list server about these commands or other commands that might exist?
Send an email with NO SUBJECT to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.DARTMOUTH.EDU with the
following single line in the body of the email:
help
OR send an email to the managers of the list using the address: smrf-request@listserv.dartmouth.edu
.
If I have a new email
address, how do I modify my subscription?
The simplest method is to unsubscribe using
your old email address and subscribe using your new one. However, if you do not have
access to both email accounts at the same time, you may miss some posts. To avoid
this problem or in case you can't access your old account to unsubscribe, send an email to
smrf-request@listserv.dartmouth.edu
and ask that your old account be removed. Then subscribe with your new email address
as a new subscriber.
