Here is an image of a small tobacco barn Bill Hoss designed some time ago (he's an A&NC/A&EC fan). AMB really didn't have a feel if this would be of any interest or not (Bill works for American Model Builders). As designed, the building could be built with one or two doors and tar paper or without the tar paper and two doors only. Tobacco barns are still found throughout the southeastern US. They show up next to homes as well as out in the fields. I think they really scream: Southeast!

These buildings were common throughout the country before the advent of indoor plumbing. However, the southeast was both warm enough to allow for more detached "privies" and was slower to grow economically such that you could find outhouses throughout much of the early and mid 20th century. |

These three images were taken by Dave Bott on a visit to Jerry's layout in Charlotte, NC during SMRFest 2001. |

I don't remember the origin of these models...are they kits or are they scratchbuilt? But they are fine examples of a small detail item that can make your layout more interesting! |
